No. 112: Something I don’t say enough
I’m going to keep this short and sweet because it’s new year’s eve and, if you’re anything like me, you’re probably not particularly inclined to reading a full-length newsletter at this very moment. For my part, I’m in California visiting my family, eating too much, and spending peaceful hours in front of the fireplace considering all I hope to achieve in 2023. With any luck, you’re doing something like that, too — and that’s something I don’t want to interrupt.
But it feels important to say,Â
Thank you for a great year.Â
Since moving this newsletter to Substack, I’ve been the happiest a writer can be. It’s not because of the intuitive platform, or the coolness of publishing to email and web, or the nifty little chat tool.
It’s because of you, who I’ve not only met on a level playing field for the first time, but come to know.
Your support has been inspiring. Your work, for those of you who write, has been a pleasure to read. And your comments — your spectacular comments — have reliably sent me over the moon.
Without fail, I find thoughtful, kind, eloquent, smart, and just plain beautiful words responding to whatever weirdness I chose as my topic each week. From them I learn. They force me to think brand new thoughts. The nuggets of wisdom from your unique life experience are like cheat codes that I, and anyone really, can benefit from. And I most certainly do.
So, again, thank you. Sincerely. I’m happier and more fulfilled because of you, which is no small thing. Our weekly rendezvous emphasize the power of writing, literature, and the pure art of a bunch of people who are doing their best coming together to support one another. All of us here are constantly aiming higher I think. I’m positive we’re getting where we’re going — slowly, maybe, but surely.Â
In 2023, expect more of this, but better.Â
I’m excited to continue sending you Friday emails and the attached weekly three. I look forward to delivering more paid-only goodies to those who’ve graciously chosen to help keep this thing — and this writer — going with their hard-earned money. And I’m especially eager to share all those projects I have no notion of now but that I’m sure will come, as they always do, out of thin air.
Here’s to the new year, to new ideas, and, most importantly, to you.
Thanks a million bajillion times over, and happy new year. Â Â
With love,
matt ♦
Thanks for the hug! Hugs back - and thank you for your terrific writing! Happy, happy new year!
It's always a joy to ready your words, Matt. Truly. May the writing Muse be with you in the coming year (and for all of your readers/writers, as well.) :)
