Matt I'm so glad to see another post from you and it is a beauty, excellent as usual. I'm down in Morro Bay as I write this and just read your piece. Your "voice" hasn't lost anything in the interim but I know you've been busy pursuing other avenues of expression. I really enjoy you're short videos on instagram too but I always hav e to ask Christopher how to navigate and find things. Thanks for putting words to "paper" though, it will always be my first and true love. I hope I can find some motivation to do some writing now that I have more time. We shall see. Keep it up!

Thanks so much, Fred!!! Nice to hear from ya. Morro Bay is very nice. I remember stopping there in my VW bus on a trip from SD to SF. We stopped by a big rock wall, and I remember those three big stacks. Glad you're enjoying the videos. It's been a lot of fun, and it's cool to build an audience over there. It seems like that's where a lot of creative action is happening, so I'm more than happy to get involved. Still, it's impossible for me to stay away from writing for too long. The simplicity is unmatched. And my mind can only go so long without the linear way of thinking writing provides. I think someone said that knowing how to write is knowing how to think, and that definitely feels true. Hope all is well. Talk soon.

Thanks for the note Matt, I appreciate hearing about your creative process and journey. Funny how you remember Morro Bay and It's iconic giant rock. There's a brew pub now, call's itself, "3 Stacks and a Rock." Morro Bay ad Cayucos next door offer a pretty relaxed getaway. I went down to escape the heat around here and ostensibly, to surf. 3 days of sloppy, blown-out garbage, never took the board off the rack. At least it was cool. The east bay has been getting hammered with heat. I imagine you get your share up there as well. As for writing and thinking they are they are entwined like yin and yang, no better way to clarify our thinking than putting it down on paper (or whatever). Tall ho😂 and keep on creating.

Such a good point about college being people's first exposure to really writing and then turning around and letting feral animals at their work. I have SO many thoughts about workshop!! I found it completely scarring almost every time. I have no solutions, lol, but I do think our sensitivities are some of our greatest strengths.

haha! "feral animals". Yes, absolutely. I have no solutions either, really, but I think it's worth noting that it can be scarring, as you say, and that's okay -- it's not the end of the world, but part of the process. Thanks for dropping by and leaving a comment, Kara. Hope all is well.

I like this advice about workshop: during it, it’s your job as the writer to listen to absolutely everything. After it, it’s your job as a writer to ignore every piece of advice that you don’t agree with. #zengoalz #strongersoulthanmine I can’t remember now who said that!! Maybe Janet Burroway, who writes all those creative writing textbooks? I could be making that but it’s good advice. Anyway, happy to be here. Your open spirit is infectious.

I really fucking hope that gap never completely closes for me. Can you imagine being.... normal?

I cannot. And likewise, I hope the gap never closes. I don't think it will. That's the fun :)

You sound to me like an HSP, Matt. I learned I was one after researching it on the web. Being an HSP means your nervous system was made differently. You’re emotions, senses, and thoughts are therefore affected by this and dialed up. That’s why you’re super observant at restaurants, I do that too!
